Arizona Sunshine Remake Review (oniberri)
TL;DR: It's a solid remake overall, I enjoyed it, nothing too mind blowing. Should be fun with friends. I have just finished this game for the third time in just under 3 hours (2:56). Hence, I wouldn't buy this for full-price though, I had upgraded from the OG for less than $9 USD.
Cons:
- The game has still got that classic janky "Vertigo Games" manual reload, where the magazines do not really match your hands or they just don't slide up the handguns all the way through. My workaround is that, I grab a mag and slam my handgun down to the mag. Two-handed manual reloads are fine, I like that you can bolt release on most weapons for ease of reloading (AND YOU REALLY NEED TO RELOAD FAST as you can get easily swarmed by zombies in this game if you don't kill quick enough) My go-to loadout is Shotgun, Nade launcher A handgun of choice, I like the five-seven The AUG A3
- I had to tinker a bit with the loadout setup in the accessibility and gameplay settings. Back in the original game, you can hold 4 weapons as you switch out each weapon in your hands back into your holster. With the default settings in the remake, you can only hold 3, 2 on the hips and 1 2nd-handed weapon on the shoulder. I used toggle and the setting that does not replace your gun when picking a new one up. Really opened up alot of way that you can play and save ammo.
- There are only 5 grenade launcher shells in the entire main campaign, not even at the end that they provide you more of them, a shame really. You can still keep the nade launcher and it reloads itself 1 shell every time a new chapter starts, so it's a good panic weapon to clear the crowd.
Pros:
- Graphics, accessibility options and the shooting feels overall improved as a whole, then again, the remake is built off of Arizona Sunshine 2, both games played very similarly.
- I really like what they did with the 3rd level of the game, AKA. "The Mine". You don't have to pick up the flashlight anymore, which means that both players have the flashlight unlike the original game in Co-Op mode, where only one player has the flashlight and the other player has to rely on them to guide the way. Which brings me to the next point, the mine is no longer pitch black that it becomes unplayable without the flashlight. This change doesn't really change much for single player, but for multiplayer? An absolutely needed QoL change.
- Additionally, the generators in the mine level are no longer unbearingly LOUD like in the original game, that is also a major plus.
