Arcadia Fallen Review (GuyManBot)
Arcadia Fallen is a hidden gem in a sea of indie visual novel/CYA games. The story is your typical fantasy story, but it is carried by a great cast of characters that you grow to care about towards the end. However there are a few noticeable complaints that I have that might deter some people.
The first being that the voice acting is inconsistent. Not all lines are voiced. which makes sense as there are a multiple dialogue choices, but then some major lines will only have one voiced section among a row of unvoiced boxes. This is especially strange since toward the end it felt like there was more voiced dialogue than the rest of the game, and it really felt like some characters were able to have their actors do more lines than others.
I also feel like this game could use a difficulty selection for certain puzzles. While I had no trouble with most of the puzzles the game threw at me, there was one in particular that took me close to an hour to finish even AFTER I knew what I had to do.
And lastly I feel the ending is a bit rushed. While the climax of the conflict is perfectly resolved in my opinion, the epilogue portion leaves a lot to be desired. It just feels that after getting to know these characters for a full runtime, the farewell portion just felt like the bare minimum.
That being said, the character interactions make this game worth it in my opinion. If you like character banter in games like Dragon Age or other similar RPG's, this game scratches that itch. Plus this is one of the few visual novels that lets you customize your character, so that's cool. I look forward to what this studio can do for the sequel they are apparently making, and hope they can improve upon the areas that kept this from being the purest hidden gem it could be.
P.S
Victoria is the best girl, and I will debate anyone who says otherwise.
