Apico Review (Sorrinrp)
I don't really leave a lot of reviews but I'm doing so today because I really like the game, or at least I really like the idea behind the game and I REALLY want it to succeed. However, in its current state I can't recommend it. As it is right now, it should have stayed in alpha/beta. It's not a completed game and shouldn't have been marketed as one, let alone a $20 one. I'll gladly come back and change my review later after some tlc has been given to it.
For context, I've only played this in multiplayer. Below are the things that caused us to quit playing. We really hope to come back to this once some more time has been put into the game.
Bugs:
- The synchronization between players is constantly failing. So often we cant see or use items crafted by the other player.
- At random points the game just deletes items from your inventory (as an example I lost the 200 rubee* boat immediately after buying it).
- Weather just flat out stopped working, which caused the entire brewing portion of the game to fail (making the loss of that boat sooo much worse).
- Music kept randomly not working, even though we kept getting notifications that a new song was on.
Preferences:
- Collision detection between the player and trees is frustrating to the point that I found myself cutting down every tree out of spite. (It's been pointed out to me that there is a fix for this in accessibility settings, however I still wish this was default, I'd have never thought to look for it there.)
- The window management system is honestly the most frustrating system I've ever used in a game. Yes, some people might love it, but it legitimately had me cursing every time I had to.
- There seems to bee (;P) very little actual content to the game right now, despite only having almost 6 hours in the game I feel like I reached a point where I could see what all there is to offer, a quick glance at the wiki confirmed those suspicions.
Out of game:
- It's a tad bit of a red flag to see people in the forums expressing their opinions in a non-hateful manner and being punished for it seemingly just due to the responding devs having differing opinions.
Please add:
- A way to add and subtract land to extend ponds or place dirt where water is. (Someone in the comments informed me that you CAN create land with the composter, so that's fantastic!)
- Water bucket and water purifier to enable apicola production pre-idol without having to depend on the weather.
