Aliens: Fireteam Elite Review (Demo Wick)
I like to start by warning new players to take this game with the idea that this is not a horror game like the movies or like the FPS game that came out way before this. This is a game for those players that want to shoot at hordes of enemies by themselves or with other players.
Besides that it is not a bad game, there are some pros. SPOILER WARNINGS
PROS:
The game has as of recently updated with a new way of having a leveling system where you can earn rewards like new skins for characters and weapons as well as name plate backgrounds.
The class roster is unique and has many different ways to play the game solo or with a group depending on your style of game play.
The levels do feel like they are straight out of the movies.
There are challenging modes and horde mode.
The weapons can be customized in many different ways of style and usage.
CONS:
Yeah there is not much else to this other than a total of 12 stages and the horde mode.
Lots of same game play style, travel to a certain point, push a button, start a wave of enemies.
The solo players will have to deal with the fact that your AI partners are honestly your greatest problem when it comes to trying to shoot at enemies while they move around in front of you and take at times on hard modes, lots of damage and some times will be the reason you fail a stage because you have one life. They also are the basic rifle class with no added benefits side from being able to heal constantly but only at a certain point of damage.
The music is very lacking in enjoyment compared to the movies.
The same sound of getting a critical kill is annoying and no way to get around that.
To be certain you even get passed a harder mode you would have to be sure to team up with someone at least a full roster of players which is capped at three. If you only have one other person side yourself you do not even get a AI as a third player to help.
Side from the iconic short barrel pump shotgun from the second movie, none of the weapons from the movies are really in this game. They are just enhanced version designs they would say. Not even the iconic pulse rifle with the underbarrel weapon is in the game.
The best way to level up is to use challenge cards and even then if you mess up or lose, that card is gone. And if you team up with other players and they want to use a card as well as you, you will have to gamble on which will be picked and you still lose that card you tried using.
None of the NPCs you talk to move there lips so it is odd talking to them and having them just move about when they are talking as if they are reading your mind.
The starting hub as I like to call it is really just to big for it self and seems they would open it up for more stuff but you don't get to see any other parts of the ship side from the area where some NPCs are standing around, you see the loader from the second movie being worked on in another room you can't go in, a command center you can look into through a door but never enter, and the store room. For a large ship, it lacks fun stuff you get to do other then just go to the same area and leave.
The weapons are plenty but really once you build a class and know what weapons are OP for it there is no real reason to use the others besides just getting a trophy unlocked for leveling them all up.
All of the stages are the same, nothing special, no use station weapons or vehicles, no driving stuff or flying anything, and even the final stage where you think you get to fight something awesome....it is just run.
I know this is a ALIENS franchise but with some of the load outs I expect some fun nods to other sharing franchises like Predator or just for kicks since it was something to poke at in the movies, terminator stuff.
There is more I could go into but I like to say this is a fun game. I bought it for more than just to play a random game, I got this because I saw something fun in it and I do have fun.
Really if you are a fan of ALIENS or just this style, first check out some game play then if your interested invest in the base game not the DLC stuff and try it out, if you enjoy it great I'm sure there is more to come from the creators soon.
