Air Twister Review (eypyeash)
I'll vaguely recommend this if you get it on sale. I would NOT suggest people buy it at full price unless you really want to support the devs.
Let me be real clear here - this game, at least the main mode, is easy as hell. The only thing that made it harder was me trying to use a controller instead of WASD and mouse. Once you go mouse and keyboard and turn off the "click to move" in the settings you can be anywhere you want to be while enemies generally impotently try to shoot you, and you can click-fire to pound boss weak points quick. If you make criss-cross patterns, bullets are very unlikely to ever land where you are... they target where you were when spawned and they take awhile to travel. It becomes even more trivial once you unlock any of the upgraded weapons using stars. Using the controller, you have no reticle and are broadly just swooshing yourself across enemies to highlight them... it's a little tougher just cuz you have to be more patient. The only actually "tricky" level is the last one cuz enemies spawn and shoot almost immediately, but you should be able to clear it out no problem. No way to adjust main mode difficulty, so you just have to slog through it again and again for more stars. Should take about 40 minutes tops, and you land around 1200 stars per cycle.
It's pretty, it's interesting, but it could have been much better. I'd love to see the devs continue to work on it a bit more. There are a bunch of game modes, one with much more aggressive enemies, so that's something, but it's very much just a mindless arcade game, no real strategy beyond twitch reacting to spawns to shoot them down as fast as possible before they shoot. And literally flying in squares. You hear the gun barking, you move to the nearest corner. If another one before you cleared the stuff you got shot at you, you move to the opposite side of the screen. Feels like it was made to be a phone game at first (it was, apparently), then they backed off and just left the trial ticket stuff in there, pointless as it is. If they got rid of the Queen-like music and brought in some weird space jazz like Panzer Dragoon it might land better.
I dunno. Buy it or don't. Don't buy it for a challenge or really anything beyond a passing interest.
