AI Limit Review (godzillaisyourdaddy)

I have been very much looking forward to this game ever since I played the Demo twice. At the price point it was asking for, it was a no brainer to just buy the Deluxe Edition knowing that the armor sets and weapons you get are just early access for content you can find later on in the game.

The combat is the highlight of this game, as it is a solid souls-like style with great responsiveness and speed. The Parry system in this game is one of the more forgiving kind that is easier to land, but not so easy where you can pull it off without effort, which I like, making it all the more rewarding when it does work to get a satisfying visceral attack.

The weapon variety I find so far is good. The weapons distinguish themselves via their appearance and their special skill attack. The basic attacks are the same for most part on the weapons, but that is not much an issue when their special Skills are distinct enough to set them apart, giving plenty of tools of destruction to choose from based on your tastes.

The story is an ambiguous one, a staple in the souls-like genre, where the truth of the world slowly but surely unravels itself over time as you progress, with interesting NPCs scattered about the world that have their own questlines that you progress as you chat with them at different parts of the world. I am liking it so far, but will see how it goes to its conclusion.

The level design I would say is solid all around. It starts generally linear, then in newer areas expand to have more density with shortcuts back to the Branches. There are quite a few out of the way areas that can be missed the first time, but once you realize you see someplace you can go, but not sure how to get there, there is definitely a path you overlooked before that you just have to keep an eye out for to know where to go. Oh yes, it can't be a souls-like game without a very specific type of biome that Hidetaka Miyazaki likes to add to the Souls series, so he should be quite proud it is here too!

Overall, for the price point, this game is a must buy in my books if you love the souls-like genre with difficult, but rewarding combat and ambiguous storytelling. Really having a good time with this game.
