After the Fall Review (Poolieo25)
After the fall does everything it says on the package. It's a *fun* zombie shooter. The story is nice (even though there's only about 10 hours max so far) the AI is great and the maps are detailed. I haven't run into any game breaking bugs, and only a few small annoying ones, like how holding your gun in your off hand makes it hard to grab ammo with advanced reloading. Aside from that, the controls feel great. I haven't played public lobbies because there's not many australian players, but I have played with a friend and it's been fun.
Pros:
-The story. There's not much story content right now, but the game could just have easily given you no narrative and people would still enjoy it. As someone who enjoys playing for objectives, it's a pleasant addition.
-The AI. It's good, there's not much to say. They'll heal eachother and revive after a wave, and sometimes they even manage to save you in a tight spot. The voice acting is fun, and I admit that though sometimes corny, their interactions are funny.
-A great game with friends. Disclaimer, I've not played in public lobbies so I can't speak to them, but with friends over vc the gameplay is intense and enjoyable.
-Graphics and level design. This game looks GOOD. There's so much detail packed into every map. Even rooms you can't access have assets and aren't just blacked out. You can shine your torch through windows and boards and fuck dude it's just so pretty as someone who appreciates details like that.
-Horde mode. Once you're done with the maps, or don't feel like committing to as much gameplay, horde mode is a great codzombies-esque wave shooter. I recommend playing with friends though, as there's no AI and solo can get hard.
Cons:
-Controls. Overall, I do like the controls in after the fall, but there's a few bugs that can make advanced reloading frustrating and some of the weapons feel just about unusable to me. Though especially in your off hand, even playing with my right I found the shotgun annoying to pump and some of the dual handed weapons hard to cock. I love the smg and the pistol, but they're also just about all the guns I can play. Also, you just about *have* to play with the laser (and I recommend changing the colour from the default red, because it's quite hard to see), because the iron sights aren't too accurate.
-Content. This one is a bit nit-picky, but there's not much content in the game currently. You get pretty much all of the guns playing the story content (10 hours *max* on your first playthrough), the last few maps have no objectives and as someone who can't play the pvp content, that, well, sucks. Skins are a fun little extra, but they feel like meaningless grind when you can't see yourself most of the time and weapon skins are client sided.
TL:DR
-Buy the game on sale, I don't think there's 45 dollars worth of content right now.
-Don't be afraid to use simple reload, or play easier difficulties to save yourself frustration.
-Play with friends! (But if you can't, the AI is good too.)
Overall, I'm having fun with this game so far. I recommend it, and I look forward to seeing it develop.
