Across the Obelisk Review (zanoroun)
I actually quite like this game, and I have many good things to say about it... but it won't be in this review unfortunately. There's three strikes that kill my enthusiasm and the game was already marked one when I redownloaded it to play it again and that was the cost of the very first DLC; a very, very short campaign for its asking price, and I haven't even had the chance to take a look at the newest one. But nonetheless forgivable on its own, as I had already done so.
But the second is the new launcher - really, we all know that was entirely unnecessary, and only forced onto us for some corporate intent. It's petulant I suppose but I have little tolerance for it. The moment I finish up game/games lists that have separate launchers I immediately remove them again - Uplay and Origin are prime examples - but at least there's multiple games to choose from. Across the Obelisk seems to have exactly one: itself. Ridiculous.
And the data harvesting? AFTER many of us already purchased the game? No, I think not. It was a fun run and it's a very good game, but I am absolutely unable to recommend this, and I sadly don't see myself returning in the future until at least some of these things are remedied that I'm sure will never come.
