Across the Obelisk: Nenukil, the Engineer Review (Syn)
This review contains no spoilers, and there is a TL;DR at the end.
Overall: 9/10
This DLC comes with a new character, complete with a new pet, skins, perks, and more. At the time of purchase, I bought this character for 4.99 USD.
Overall, this is a solid character DLC. The new character is interesting and nuanced in a way that we haven't seen quite yet in the game. Their playstyle(s) are difficult and interesting, providing a great learning curve that, at the moment, feels rewarding to learn. Nenukil is a difficult character to understand, and I like that about them.
Nenukil currently feels as though he has 3 unique playstyles. 1. Self-Sufficient Massive fast stacking melee burst. 2. Melee/Ranged mixed dps and 3. Variant Tanky. This third tanky playstyle seems decently variable, allowing you to focus heavily into thorns, or evasion, or a hybrid dps/tank combo. It is possible there are more combos, but this is what I've found so far.
I strongly recommend this character for anyone looking for something new in the ATO world, who likes a challenge or egnima to solve. Nenukil seems like they have high potential, but will require puzzling out to understand his inner workings. I do not recommend this character for anyone new to the game, or who doesn't like games with high skill floors.
Nenukil also seems to have a decent connection to the game world as well, with interesting and fun dialogue options in several parts of the game. The world interacts to him in interesting ways, and that's good. Other positives include finally receiving a dlc scout character, as well as great looking skins and a fun and unique pet.
TL;DR Character is fun, unique, nuanced, and has good artwork, but is difficult to learn. Their builds are new and interesting. They are well planned and have unique world dialogue options. There is little to no concern or gripe, aside from the potential that this character isn't for everyone. Great DLC, worth the price.
