Abandon Ship Review (ZZ177)
I want to like it but it simply is not worth the price.
Pros: Lovingly crafted maps, highly original concept, good writing. I actually like the idea of gates separating each map.
Cons: Ok this may sound harsh but honestly free games for mobile phones have deeper gameplay. Every battle follows a repetitive formula. Every port is the exact same. Unique flavor text is very rare.
Bugs: Randomly in battle crew will stop being able to carry out orders. Must quit to desktop and restart to fix. Sometimes more than once.
My worst complaint is that for a game about sailing around there was zero attempt to model sailing. Navigating the ship is a brainless chore. The ship instantly turns and moves with point and click. You find yourself close to rocks. What about Current? Wind? Acceleration? Whatever, just click away. Makes exploring the maps (75% of the game) totally bland. Not asking for 3D physics, just something a little more interesting.
