A Story About My Uncle Review (corbo)
I liked it at first.
Grapples and super jumps, my kind of gameplay.
There's nothing else, yet I would be fine with that.
However, past the 1st village, the level design is awful and keeps getting worse.
Firstly, it's beyond dark.
It's pitch black.
With gamma set very high, I still can't distinguish between the floor, the walls, and the void.
Perfect for constant falls while walking blind.
Great for wrongly estimating distances as well.
Then there's no sense of orientation, no compass, very few recognisable landmarks.
I can never tell if I'm walking forward or backtracking. It becomes truly painful inside the black cave.
Issues continue piling up with the severe lack of checkpoints, and their horrible placement.
Obviously, the exploration is utterly ruined; if there is any to begin with.
Not to forget the giant eye that forces you to wait between jumps; a bonus dose of anti-fun.
Passing it brings no satisfaction, only a sigh of relief.
Unwarranted relief, because the following level isn't enjoyable either.
What's meant to be entertaining and relaxing turns out to be extremely taxing on wrists and thumbs. And joyless.
