A Little to the Left Review (RoomWithAVoid)

A Little to the Left is a great game if you enjoy sorting/organizing. I found the art style charming and the troublesome cat delightful. However, the game does have some flaws I want to acknowledge. Firstly, the further you get into the game, the more puzzles you will see that don't fit the motif of the others. There are a lot of puzzles that don't involve organizing, or in some cases there are puzzles that require you to deliberately un-organize something.
There are also a lot of puzzles in which the solution is very un-intuitive. I found myself getting frustrated at a couple of them because, rather than being challenging in a way that makes you think, I could not fathom how I was supposed to figure something out on my own. There are a lot of puzzles that could benefit from a bit of an explanation. There is a hints system within the game, but I did not discover its existence until i was in the second to last chapter of the game. The hints are also somewhat inconsistent. Some of the hints completely gave away the solution, while others didn't tell me anything that wasn't immediately obvious. The puzzle I had the most trouble with was the one where you pet the cat. I ended up having to look this one up because I thought the cat's upset was based on where I pet it depending on color, and the hint was no help. I think the changing colors in this puzzle caused an added layer of confusion due to me thinking they were important to what I was doing. I also had trouble with the tupperware-stacking level. There didn't appear to be any reason as to why some combinations worked and some did not.
I only bring these issues up so the developers may keep them in mind for the future, not to dissuade anyone from playing this game. There is a lot more to enjoy about this game, and the issues weren't too prevalent and could mostly be overlooked.
A great aspect of this game is that many levels have several solutions. This is a great way to accommodate different players ways of thinking, and provides a fun challenge for completitionists to see things from a new perspective. The only complication with this mechanic is that you can only view which levels have multiple solutions either by completing the level, or viewing it from the levels menu. The game usually goes from one level to the next, so most players likely won't visit the level method too often. There were a couple puzzles (for example, the box stacking level) where I was trying to accomplish two solutions at once because I did not realize they were separate solutions. I think the game could benefit by displaying the solution number to the player at the start of the level.
Overall, I think this is a great game a lot of people will enjoy. My criticisms come from a place of appreciation. I recommend giving this game a shot!
