A Light in the Dark Review (Lunary)

Pretty good art for an indie visual novel and a really unique premise, but unfortunately that's where the positives end. It's overly preachy and simplistic about issues it wants to portray, with the same few talking points shoved down your throat a billion times with slightly different wording. While the atmosphere is very unique when it comes to visual novels, the writing is super repetitive and the number of hours I put in (about 10 hrs including offline time) really isn't indicative about the amount of real substance it has.
This also has a bunch of other problems, mostly technical, which make it really frustrating to play through.
• The skip function is insanely slow (even by Unity VN standards) and makes it an absolute slog to replay the game for different endings.
• On top of this, you can only save after every chapter, so you need to go through far more text than you'd otherwise need. Wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue without the horribly slow skip.
• The choices are also obtuse; don't even think about playing this without a guide if you want to get all the endings.
• There is no option to adjust the transparency of the text box. It's far too opaque, especially at the sides, and most of the stuff in the room can't be seen unless you hide it. Another fundamental option available in pretty much all modern visual novels.
• No option to keep voice on click, which nearly all modern visual novels have nowadays. It's a minor thing, but pretty noticeable.
