20 Minutes Till Dawn Review (HEX: Jumpscare)
The game isn't really bad, it's good but as it has been pointed out by so many others, it lacks depth and variety Meta progression is grindy and honestly not worth the effort. You barely feel the difference in gameplay with runes and apparently the dev was so afraid of creating "inbalance" that every one of them except 2 runes have you do things like "kill 1500 enemies to regen a heart" when there are power ups in the game that give you a heart every 90 seconds (which is also a bit excessive). Characters have stupid powers, like Spark, who shoots lightning that deals veeeeeeery little damage when the game offers a skill tree that literally offers quintuple the damage on its first skill (electro mage).
The comparisons with vampire survivors are fair, in my opinion. It clearly draws inspiration from it without understanding what made VS so fun to play to begin with. In this game, it feels like the dev thinks he is being both cautious and generous when they offer really basic upgrades, weapons and characters, while in VS the game pretty much says "hey, here, take this nuke. Go wild with it". It's both the attitude and tone that matters in games like these.
Again, not a bad game. You can make some pretty crazy builds, the art style is nice and consistent, some characters have interesting powers, but ultimately the lack of enemy variety, restrictive design, boring weapons and upgrades, lackluster map selection (theres only 3) and repetetive, monotone music makes it far less enjoyable than it could be.
Edit: I forgot to add that without rerroll, skip and banish like mechanics, making a build the way you want to is very difficult due to RNG.
