We are very pleased to present you all with the latest major content update to grace the perilous shores of Northgard: The Trials of Odin!
In what is surely one of the most biggest and most impactful free updates we've released to date, you'll be greeted with new conquests, new warchiefs, massive clan overhauls/reworks, tons of balancing and more...
But don't take our word for it, read on to find out more about what's included in this massive new update for Northgard!

Bonuses
Some clan-specific Conquest bonuses have been re-designed/ adjusted following changes to the clans themselves.

Spectator Mode:

A new spectator mode is available for multiplayer games!
While setting up multiplayer lobbies, you can choose to allow or not a spectator to watch the game. (Not available for ranked games)
If you do, a spectator can join the game lobby, even after the game has begun, and has access to a bunch of information about how the game is going and what each player is doing!

Relics
We’re reworking the “basic” relics and restricting their number from 5 to 3, both for Viking Clans and Kingdoms in order to make them all more interesting.

Svalinn is removed.

Viking Relics

Gefjun's Jar

Previous behavior is scrapped.

New behavior:

Population Happiness requirement is reduced.
Your workers have an increased production based on your Happiness level.

Mjöllnir

Previous behavior is scrapped.

New behavior:

Forge is 50% faster.
Forged military units have a chance to summon a lightning bolt on their enemy when they land a strike.

Kingdom Relics

Codex Aureus - unchanged

New relic: Holy Fire

Feasts cost -50% and use Wood instead of Food.
During Feasts, the units in your territory inflict Burning Damages.

Rivalries

Rivalries have globally been nerfed.

Events
Kraken Event - modifications:

Sailors now get Fame for venturing on the sea when the Kraken is roaming.
Ships will no longer be automatically destroyed during the event, the Kraken will only attack if too many ships are at sea during the event.

Victories
Commercial Victory - modifications:

If you stop all Great Trade-Routes, your Commercial Influence will slowly decrease over time.
If several clans have Great Trade-Routes at the same time, the amount of Commercial Influence they’re getting out of it is reduced.

Knowledges
Monster Slayer

Gives +10% Attack Power against Dragonkins > Draconic Units
(Dragonkins, Draconic Nightmares, Draconic Jotnars, Surtr)
Other effects are unchanged.

Buildings
Forge

Forge upgrade cost: 10 > 5 Stones.

MarketPlace

All prices have been reduced by 50%.

Ruins/ Shipwrecks

Value of ruins and shipwrecks based on their distance to the player TownHall have been globally reduced.

Units
Bodyguard

Bodyguard is now a controllable unit and can be recruited even if the warchief is not in the zone. (But can only be recruited if you have your warchief)
If the warchief dies, the bodyguard dies as well.
Cooldown before you can recruit the Bodyguard again: 3 > 6 months.


Clans:




Warchief




Karà is the new warchief of the Kraken Clan.
She is a Valkyrie, and as such, she also Heal near Hörgrs, and in zones under the effect of High-Tide with the knowledge of Valhalla's Reinforcement.
Her stats have been rebalanced.

Start-with

Wyrd is no longer a stacking resource but a flux and replaces Happiness completely.
The clan is unaffected by Happiness maluses and bonuses.
Wyrd abilities are removed (they are reworked into other elements).
When you have a positive production of Wyrd, the Kraken will send you new Villagers.
When you have a negative production of Wyrd you will instead receive Spectral Warriors under your control that can be sacrificed to apply High-Tide to the zone they are in.
High-Tide can be applied to coastal zones.
The maximum number of Spectral Warriors you can have under your control is increased by +1 for each Hörgr built, +2 if upgraded.
Norns are renamed Seeresses.
A Seeress can be evolved into a Valkyrie for 120 Kröwns, and inflict a constant cost of -3 Wyrd.
Valkyries possess the ability to be sacrificed to colonize a zone from start (required to forge units previously).
Other start-with are unchanged.

Fame 200

You no longer receive a fixed amount of Wyrd.

New effect:

Spectral Warriors increase the production of the zone they’re in by +15%.
Other effects are unchanged.

Fame 500
New effect:

Your maximum number of Spectral Warriors is increased by +4.
Other effects are unchanged.

Relic

Previous effect of the relic is scrapped.

New effect:

You can call on the Kraken and trigger a Kraken event.
During a Kraken event, when a boat gets destroyed you get the resources it contained.

Knowledges
Foresight

Knowledge is removed.

Near The Sea Spirit

Previous effect is reworked.

New effect:

High-Tide zones generate +1 Kröwns, +1 Wyrd, and have +1 Building Slot.

New Blessing: Blessing of Ràn

Replaces Blessing of Baldr
You receive 3 Spectral Warriors.

Valkyries
Stats

17.5 > 14 Def

Forge:

Previous effect is now available from the start on Valkyries.

2 New effects:

If Wyrd production is positive: Enlightenment.
The Valkyrie heals nearby military units outside of combat.
If Wyrd production is negative: Corruption.
The Valkyrie gains +25% Move speed and +10% Attack Power.




Warchief

Surtr is the new warchief of the Dragon Clan.



Surtr can be recruited for a cost in Draconic Essence instead of Iron.
He is now considered a Draconic unit and benefits from bonuses that affect them.
His stats have been rebalanced.
He has a chance to enslave the enemies he slays.

Start-with

There are no more limits on Thralls.
Thralls do not need a Longship Dock to be purchased.
Base price for Thralls has been adjusted.
Thralls can be assigned to production buildings from the start and no longer require the knowledge of Hard Labor.
Thralls can be assigned to the Forge.
When assigned to buildings, Thralls no longer produce resources themselves but they instead boost the production of workers.
Draconic Essence is consumed faster depending on the number of Thralls you have compared to your clan population.
Other start-with are unchanged.

Fame 500

The clan no longer gains bonuses for being behind on victories.

New effect:

Dragonkins can be sent to a Dragonkin Altar a second time to be turned into Draconic Nightmares.
Other bonuses are unchanged.

Knowledges
Hard Labor

Knowledge is removed and is now a start-with of the clan.

Capture

The part about capturing enemy units is now a start-with.
Other effects are unchanged.

Blood, Sweat & Tears

Now replaces Eradication.
Increases the number of Thralls you can assign by 2 > 1.
or 2 if the building is upgraded.

Thrall Trade

Now replaces Medicine.

New effect:

Draconic Essence gauge decreases 30% slower.
Other effects are unchanged.

New Knowledge: Draconic Rage

Replaces Monster Slayer.
Draconic units have +15% Attack Power.
Instead of capturing enemy units as Thralls, if you have available Warband slots, they are instantly turned into Dragonkins and join your army.

Draconic Nightmares

New Forge for the Nightmares: Battlecry
When the Nightmare takes a hit, it screams to intimidate nearby enemies and decrease their Attack Power by -30% for 3 seconds.
Cooldown: 10 seconds.




Warchief

Signy stats have been rebalanced.
Her stats now only scale for the 3 first years but not after she’s 18.

Ages
Age 15

Signy has access to Scorched-Earth from the beginning but can only use it on neutral and ally zones.
Scorched Earth gives +20% Attack Power to Snake units and steals natural resources from the zone. (not in ally zone)
Cooldown: 4 months.

Age 16: Fire with fire

Raised by Wolves is removed.
When Scorched Earth is applied to a zone, all wild creatures flee to adjacent zones, revealing them in the process.
Other effects are unchanged.

Age 17: Shadow of the Wild

Signy no longer gets +50% bonus stats at age 17.
You can have one more zone affected by Scorched-Earth simultaneously.
Effects are unchanged.

Age 18: Scorched Earth

Scorched Earth can target enemy zones and gives +50% Attack Power to Snake units.

Start-with

Swidden Field is removed.
Instead Signy has access to Scorched Earth from the start.

Knowledges
Rapacious Exploitation:

Previous effect is scrapped.

New effect:

Snake military units gather the natural resources and heal while standing on a burning Scorched Earth zone.
(the first 2 months of Scorched Earth)

Stolen Lore

Now replaces Medicine.
Effects unchanged.

Black-Market

No longer degrades the relation of other clans when you have units Cloaked among neutral factions units.

New effect:

When you have Cloaked units among neutral factions, they steal the resources that enemy clans send via trade-route.
(it does not affect the relation gain)
Other effects are unchanged.

Under Pressure

Attacking buildings to steal resources no longer burns them.
Other effects are unchanged.

Guerilla Tactics

Bonus is 100% more effective during the first 5 > 3 seconds of a fight.




Warchief

Liv is the new warchief of the Raven Clan.



She comes in with a brand new skin to celebrate this.
Her stats have been rebalanced.
She has a new active ability: Odin’s Eyes
You can see through the fog of war for 1 month.
Cooldown: 6 months.

Start-with

Financial Optimisation is removed (Passive +15% bonus to Kröwns production)
You can no longer spend Kröwns to attract new Villagers faster.
Great Trade-Routes reduction (-10%) is removed.
Trade-Routes with Homeland are no longer available from the start.
New: You gain Lore when you scout new zones.
Sailors assigned to Harbors can now either produce Kröwns or Scout coastal zones. (They produce more Kröwns than classic Sailors)
Raids are now available from the start but can’t target enemy zones.
You can no longer choose how many Mercenaries you send on raid, they automatically send as many Mercenaries as you have Sailors assigned to the Harbor.
Cooldown is no longer on Harbors but on the zones targeted by the raids.
Raids prices have been rebalanced.
Raids forge are removed.
You can control Mercenaries.
They only stay 30 seconds on the zone targeted and can’t decolonize it.
Each Mercenary steals some of the natural resources from the tile, but only when they leave the tile (IF they leave it alive).

Fame 200

Raids can target enemy zones.
Trade-Routes with Homeland are available at the Trading Posts and provide resources for a cost in Kröwns.
Other effects are unchanged.

Fame 500: Wartime Economy

Previous Fame 500 is scrapped.

New effects:

Upkeep costs of all buildings are reduced by -15% and by -50% for Military Buildings.
Mercenaries can be recruited at Military Camps to bolster your Warband. They do not consume Food and Wood but require a constant payment in Kröwns to remain under your control.

Relic

A Son of Hymir automatically joins all of your raids and gathers twice as many resources as a normal Mercenary.
Raven Ships become unsinkable and are unaffected by Kraken and Frozen Sea events.

Knowledges
Negotiators

Now replaces Coinage.
Forging speed bonus is removed.

New effects:

MarketPlace prices are reduced by -25%.
You send -25% less resources via Trade-Routes.
Other effects are unchanged.

Exotic Goods

Now replaces Shipbuilding.
Previous effect is scrapped.

New effect:

Sailors produce +20%.
All Great Trade-Routes provide +2 Happiness.
For each 200 Commercial Influence, your next Villagers arrive +15% faster. (Max: +75%)

Journeymen

Now replaces Medicine.
Effects unchanged.

Gear Upgrade

Now replaces Weaponsmith.
Military Units gain +6 > +4% Attack Power and Defense, for each active Merchant or Sailor. (Max: +30% > +20%)




Warchief

Halvard is the new warchief of the Goat Clan.



He comes in with a brand new skin to celebrate this.
His stats have been rebalanced.
He has a new passive ability: Shepherd.
After participating in clearing a zone, wild Sheeps in the zone are captured by Halvard.

Start-with

Military XP gains are no longer reduced for the clan.

Relic

Additional Sheepfold is removed from Relic effects.

Knowledges
Spare Tools

Replaces Industrious as a stealable Knowledge.
Previous effect is scrapped.

New effect:

Tools can be forged without Iron.

Industrious

Previous effect is scrapped.

New effect:

Halvard can be assigned to buildings producing Food or Happiness to increase their production by +60%.




Warchief

Svarn is the new warchief of the Boar Clan.
He comes in with a brand new skin to celebrate this.
His stats have been rebalanced.

Fame 200
New effect:

Svarn heals wounded animals inside your territory and can Tame an animal to join him in battle.




Warchief

Borgild is the new warchief of the Bear Clan.
She comes in with a brand new skin to celebrate this.

Knowledges
Winter Festival

Now replaces Hearthstone.
Previous effect is scrapped.

New effect:

Food production is no longer reduced during Winter.
All other productions are increased by +15% during Winter.




Warchief

Brand is the new warchief of the Stag Clan.



He comes in with a brand (ahah) new skin to celebrate this.

Start-with
New effect:

The clan gains more Happiness and Fame from its territory. (+50%)

Fame 500

Max gain of production and reduction of colonization costs 25% > 15%.

Relic

Max Atk +5 > +4.

Egil is the new warchief of the Wolf Clan.

Now replaces Coinage.

Horse Warchiefs stats have been rebalanced.
Their mining speed has been increased.

Production bonus on zones adjacent to a relic no longer stacks if there are 2 relics adjacent.

Warchiefs produce 5 > 4 Lore for each ore extracted.

Völund Fire

Tool forge gives an additional +10% > +5% prod.

Passive production of Military XP is removed.

You can no longer sell Trophies.

You can buy Trophies at the Marketplace.

Effects of Meals are reduced by -50% for allies.
Cost in Food for ally Meals have been reduced accordingly.




Shamans
Forge: Last Stand

Previous effect is scrapped.

New effect:

After taking a hit, the Shaman next attack deals +60% Dmgs.




Start-with

The clan no longer gains Lore when scouting new zones.
Caches are no longer passively uncovered by Aviaries, but by active Falconers.
Aviaries upgrade increased scouting speed by +50% > +20%. (But the bonus stacks for each upgrade)
Caches content have been rebalanced.
Tiles with multiple Ore deposits no longer count as multiple sources or Ore for generation of Loot Pouches.
(So the max amount of Ore you can get in one clear is 6)

Knowledges

Training Field
If you have Griff you gain +3 > +1 Happiness.

Blood Eagle

Blind effect lasts for 3 > 2 seconds.

Sentinel

Wachkeeping ability gives +10% > +20% bonus production to the zone.

Falconer's Forge increases Caches Spawn speed, and no longer scouting speed.

Recruitment cost in Faith: 100% > 150% of the cost in Kröwns.

Give a base bonus of 20% > 25%.

Reliquary

No longer gives +20% Faith production

Units
Champions

Second hit only passes on 100% > 30% of the Damages.
Champions base Atk is increased from 7 to 8.

Monks

No more than 3 Monks can heal at the same time - the others keep producing Faith/ crafting Relics.

Relic

Revive all units with 10% Health > 50% Health.

Knowledges
Steelwork

Smithy increases defense to military units by 15% > 10%.


Visual Changes:


Warchiefs are now bigger in scale.
Outlines of units now appear in the color of their clan.
Except for Warchiefs and Heros who appear with a gold outline.
Pause UI has been reworked.


Audio Changes:


Addition of new sounds.


Ranking Changes


GPs wins and losses in Free-for-all games are now calculated differently to take into account the end position of the player.
Players' end position in Free-for-all games no longer take into account the progress on passive victories. If a player wins by any Victory other than Domination, all remaining players are all ranked at the same lowest remaining position.
(For example if 4 players remain and one wins with a Wisdom Victory, all 3 remaining players will be ranked in 4th position.)
