Bad gameplay with passable character models, forgettable music, in a beautiful environment, with great writing, fantastic voice acting, and an incredible story - It's really hard to review this
It's obvious that a ton of time and effort has gone into turning what started as a Skyrim mod into the best possible version of itself, and that was absolutely worth it, but the fundamental gameplay systems are pushed near to their breaking point. There's very little room for creativity or problem solving: Progression amounts to the number of dialog options you've clicked on. You're always told exactly what to do and how to accomplish it. Scripted events break NPC behavior resulting in sometimes having to wait several minutes to talk to someone while they just stand there. And interactivity is limited to a small number of options which leads to frustrating situations like wanting to tell an NPC about something important, but it's simply not something you can do
I'm being a bit harsh here because I think with >90% positive reviews, it's important to acknowledge where the game falls flat so you go in with the right expectations. If you approach this as a puzzle game (which, to be fair is not how the game is marketed) you're going to be sorely disappointed. If you instead think about this as something like a modernized point-and-click adventure then you're going to be in for a good time. At its heart, Forgotten City is a spectacular narrative experience that anyone with an even casual interest in ancient history is going to find compelling. There's a level of tact and maturity in the storytelling here that is rare in any medium, but particularly so in video games
I hope that this is just the beginning for this studio
