What I liked
1. Onimusha is back in action
2. Capcom added a few extra things and touch ups. And a touch up to the graphics.
3. The soundtrack was not plucked out and redid like with Onimusha: Warlords.
I can’t decide
1. I’m not sure if I should be happy about the fact that Onimusha is back in action or I should be upset about the censorship and Denuvo.
What I disliked
1. The censorship (…what is this? 4kids entertainment?).
2. Free movement controls (the game wasn’t made with that in mind and it ruins the experience for me).
3. Denuvo (people have reported that Denuvo ruins their SSDs and it causes lag)
Listen, Capcom
...I’m happy that you are re-releasing your back catalogue of classic PS1 and PS2 games to PC. And I’m happy about Onimusha receiving a second chance at life - a netflix show and a new up and coming Onimusha game that may or may not be coming in 2026 - But I’m not happy that you censored Onimusha 2 and you implemented Denuvo.
I’m not upset over the covering up of the female character’s bonus outfit or the bathing scene in the opening. No. I’m upset over the fact that you, Capcom, censored Onimusha 2 at all. And for some reason, even though Onimusha 2 got censored, you didn’t cover the female character’s cleavage. Or the men’s large, bulging biceps and abs.
(When it comes to censorship, you can’t just cover up the women and leave the guys shirtless with their large muscles on full display. Censorship shouldn’t be a one-sided thing)
In Onimusha: Warlords, if one, supposedly, turned on Japanese voices, then one could play the game uncensored …But I don’t think this applies to Onimusha 2. I don’t know, I haven’t tried it yet. So, why couldn’t the censorship just be an option inside the game settings that one can just turn on and off by choice?
…Capcom, Capcom, Capcom. You had one job to make it right; one job to redeem your past mistakes of the Xbox360/PS3-era of gaming, and you almost succeeded.
And the topping on this ice cream is the fact that you implemented Denuvo …which I’ve heard can shorten the lifespan of people’s SSDs, cause lag, and whatnot.
Why would you want to modify your older games to appeal to a ‘’modern audience’’ that doesn’t exist or care about you. Your real audience aren’t those blue-haired, horned-rimmed glasses wearing people who get easily triggered over an image of a beautiful woman. Your fans and consumers, your actual fans and consumers, are those from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s who grew up on the NES, SNES, PS1 and PS2. They are your actual, real fans and consumers.
…Sigh… May 23rd, 2025, was supposed to be a glorious occasion for Onimusha 2’s massive comeback, but instead, it ended up in a whimper because Capcom allowed the wrong people to steer them in the wrong direction - the wrong marketing team, the wrong investors, the wrong PR, the wrong fans, the wrong western employees. …How disappointing. And here I thought Capcom was going through a renaissance.
