My Friendly Neighborhood is a really special Mascot Horror Game. It's very different from what you normally see in this now overdone genre. The gameplay is fast paced and continually exciting throughout the game's runtime, and it offers a wide variety of different play styles to keep each playthrough feeling fresh. On top of that, the game sports a strangely well done story that asks some genuinely interesting questions about the nature of happiness, which really shocked me. I mean this is the same game genre as Garten of Banban.

I guess my main problem with this is that it's not scary, like at all. It could be my personal desensitization to this type of horror, but I really never got scared. The save stations were also a tad annoying on my first run, but I grew to appreciate them over time.

Ultimately, despite a couple flaws here or there, this game is an absolute blast. It's one of the few mascot horror titles to actually put a focus on gameplay and making it a fun experience, which is a huge breath of fresh air after playing something like Poppy Playtime Chapter 4. And the crazy thing is, the lore and story doesn't suffer because of this. You can really feel the passion behind this project, and I'm completely here for all of it.

Very short, yet great "horror" game.
See it as a short Resident Evil with very few jumpscares and more like a mysterious atmosphere.
It's not that scary but It feels like an old game, set in old times. And I mean it in a good way. You're not taken by hand with tiny dots and landmarks, you just need to find your way with a gameplay highly similar to Resident Evil.
The combat is classic but the puppets' design is great and better than mascot horror nowadays because the puppets look very friendly and good (not like twisted characters as you often see in this highly saturated mascot-horror genre). They're only twisted by their behavior and dialogs, which I found very refreshing.
The story is nice, with a beautiful message that needs to be in more media than just this small game.
Duration is a bit low though, I'd have loved more content and 7 hours for 28$ seems a bit much but I had a very FRIENDLY time, so you can take this recommendation.
