Update 04/06/2025
Not only have the all the issues I had been addressed in the space of two patches, the changes have landed Hollow Survivors somewhere in the middle of the difficult/rewarding sweet spot.
Combat feels WAY better to me since the update.
Control in general also feels far more responsive.
Spell now has an aiming line.
Combat has always been hectic (they're not kidding with the "Bullet Hell" tag), but it's no longer frustrating because you can react significantly better to enemies that do bump damage.
The biggest thumbs up, though, is the fact that the devs actively engage with their community on feedback. This is exactly the kind of project you should support in EA if you want to support a team that clearly loves what they do and want to make it great. Just check out their responses to reviews and discussions and you'll see what I mean.

Look, i want to like this. I want to love this. The aesthetic, the sound design, the music, it's all top notch. the story (as far as I have gotten) seems really interesting and well thought out. It has everything i love about rogue{sub-genre}'s i love: meta progression, different weapons, interesting skills.
but.
oh my god the combat is terrible. Clunky doesn't even begin to describe it. Sluggish controls paired with a reaction-time-centric mechanics? Only being able to attack in the direction you're moving? No aiming indication for your ranged spell, which is one half of your combat abilities? Everything else, and i mean everything else is top notch. If they can sort out the combat to feel even slightly less painful, it's a definite winner.
