I've played $6.99 indie dev games on Steam that offer triple the production, writing, and gameplay value this game has. $25 is valuing itself at half the content and value that Alan Wake 2 offers. Does this dev really think they've produced half of Alan Wake 2?
The beginning portions are entertaining in how unintentionally funny some of the eventing is, like how unbothered the MC's kid is about literally anything going on before he gets abducted. But overall the writing isn't very good. Character logic and reasoning is just absent for entire portions of the story when you meet NPC's and gain objectives. The save system is janky. You can complete an entire objective, talk to an NPC, acquire a new objective, close out the game and when you go to replay it you will have lost all that progress and be sent back to the previous objective. Is this probably designed to be played in one sitting? Most likely, but the gameplay is so frustratingly bad I needed to stop and pick it back up another time. And on the note of being played in one sitting, if it's designed that way why the $25 price tag? This doesn't offer any replay value, and as far as I can tell the assets aren't original, they're purchased, so again, why the $25 price tag other than to be a cash grab?
This game feels like it's half passion project, half scam. I recommend avoiding. Even at a 50% discount, it's still not a $12.50 game, it's a sub $10 game, and $10 would be generous .
There's one good thing about the story. You meet a child who's @$$hat dad is missing, and she's on her own. I did not like her, and I really wanted the writing to lean into her being, well, let's say unpleasant. And in this instance, the game did actually deliver what I'd wanted and it was the highlight of the entire game for me.
