I am a huge fan of the art and the round-based strategy combined with the lair building and played through every similar game starting from darkest dungeon.
Initially, I was in love with the game. The basic ideas are great and new concepts such as genetics and breeding brought new aspects to the genre. Furthermore, the art style is amazing as well, especially the crazy variants of goblins one can gather!
Over time, however, some of the negative aspects took the fun out of the game for me. It started with a lot of bugs, I had to restart my run twice because my lair got bugged or the game stuck in a fight. Later on, some mechanisms were not working accordingly. For example, freezing an enemy bugged out and did not work in a certain run anymore. Another thing was that certain 20% hits (shield, bleeding) always resisted when they activated even if the opponent had no resistances.
After 30 hours the game got also quite boring and repetitive. I think on a typical run I spend 70 % of my time doing my breedings and dismissing goblins after a run to get my 6 souls (highest soul farming efficiency.) This process is however tedious after a while. The lair is also fully upgraded at 50% of the story so you do not have to farm resources or souls anymore. I still want to play efficiently but you just pile up stuff which you do not need. The same goes for gold. Sitting on 60k after purchasing all the rooms. One can buy a weapon here and there but a challenge run is usually better for rare stuff. Once you get through all the grinding the run itself is in my opinion way too simple and repetitive. Compared to darkest dungeon you can not lose a run or even a fight. Overall I think I lost 2-3 goblins in battle and sent away hundreds after runs for soul farming. I think it would be better if more difficulty options were available from the start of the game maybe combined with multiple run slots.
