Review after just the tutorial zone, focusing on the thing I was curious about and didn't see mentioned in any other reviews: the two-player couch co-op.
Short version: it's not very good.
I thought from a brief interaction with it that it might be a good one to play with my wife because she's not generally great at game dexterity, and it does have *that* aspect covered, in that the second player is an invincible sidekick. The problem is there's very little the second player can actually do - they can peck the minor bad-guys for a small amount of damage, and help collect health, which is okay, but 90% of the time neither of those things are needed so the second player has nothing to do and is bored. It seems like this role is targeted at the "4 year old brother" demographic, but even there it would be a failure, partly because of the nothing-meaningful-to-do time, but worse, every time there's a cutscene (even when it's still "in game") both players lose all control over their characters (which is extra frustrating when you're a player who has no control over when this happens, and I think would frustrate the hypothetical four year old into doubting they're controlling anything at all!) This is weird because in the original Figment after knocking on a door, for example, you could move around while they respond, but this time it seems you're stuck waiting for the duration of the response, as is the sidekick.
During the boss battle, especially, it's quite a long duration and there is nothing the sidekick can do with any impact at all.
Still selecting yes to recommend, because it seems like it's more of the same as the original Figment, but if you were eyeing it specifically as a co-op game, would not recommend. Also it seems *slightly worse* than the original Figment in that it locks you out of controlling anything more - cutscenes in the original were shorter and much of the dialogue played while you were playing rather than freezing.
Edit additional after finishing the game: it's also shorter than the first one, with more cutscenes (that aren't as good), more bugs, and less interesting puzzles. It's still a decent game so I'm going to leave the recommend as a yes, and I wouldn't say it's *disappointing* after the first one, but it's not as good as the first one.
