Although one might say "Well, there's no way it can be as bad as the first DLC pack," that unfortunately does not work here. I really want this to be a good investment and hopefully they will iron out the issues I have here before the DLC gets out of early access, but unless something changes for the better, this review is going to remain as is.
For starters, we're getting even less characters than the last DLC pack. While that isn't a deal-breaker by itself, it is a little concerning -- however, we've already got plenty of characters in the game, so I really don't mind it much. The problem here is that the only thing the DLC offers you is the characters and one costume that isn't even applicable to anyone who doesn't have the pre-order bonus. I'm not even making this up.
Well, then, I suppose the review should focus on the content that is actually there. The stuff is good, right? Well, not entirely. While the animations feel more fluid and natural than many of the Superhero pack's animations do, there's still no doubting that there is a lot left to be desired. Some of Goku's moves look absolutely gorgeous with unique camera angles, though the rest are uninspired attacks with very basic cutscenes. Some moves are just your stereotypical "Here's a giant laser and if you get hit by it, watch a cutscene of your character closing their eyes and screaming while they slowly move their hand in front of their face while they become enveloped in the blast." Yup, it's that same animation. The base game had this issue too, but I could excuse it because it fit a lot of characters and didn't feel cheap whenever it was used. In the DLC, however, it just made me wish that I was paying for an actually unique looking move rather than a standard laser. Panzy's ultimate is also just tragic, what with her dad not even saying anything. He actually just looks at her with a weird grin and then starts blasting. Not even a grunt or a "Let's do this!", just an awkward face and a subpar cutscene. Glorio's grab animation also looks hilariously bad. If you haven't seen it yourself, just look at it -- the idea of him using electricity is great, but everything after that looks nasty.
Okay, they don't look that great. So what? Surely they're still fun to play as? Unfortunately, many of them have the same standard boring skills that you can see throughout the rest of the base game -- here's a skill where you instantly go into Sparking, here's a skill where you buff yourself, here's a skill where you stun your opponent. Once again, this is a thing I could excuse in the base game (and many characters put unique twists on it anyways, like Ginyu harming himself with his buff or Spopovich and Dr. Gero debuffing themselves in exchange for one stat increase), but here it feels cheap and uninspired. The other moves are also unimpressive with your standard lasers and your typical dash attacks. This is another hard one to fault because at the same time, these moves are also common throughout the base game, so I guess I could excuse this one. I'm just not sure if this is really a unique gameplay experience that's being offered here. Panzy is also in a tough spot -- her main gimmick is that she's very fast at charging, but when two of her special moves are long-range projectiles and the other is a mid-range area-of-effect move, it just becomes a game of "how good are you at spamming these moves". Not that it makes her overpowered or anything -- nobody in this DLC is really remarkable when it comes to power compared to some of the base game's cast.
On the bright side, while this DLC is worse than the first DLC pack, the good news is that it doesn't copy and paste moves everywhere. Superhero Piccolo struggled with Special Beam Cannon plaguing every single one of his forms, but when transforming from base form to Super Saiyan 3 with Vegeta, I felt as though his moves were actually changing. Galick Doom is basically just a glorified Galick Gun, but Goku (Z-Mid)'s base form did the same thing with the Kaioken Combo or whatever it's called -- it's basically just a glorified Kamehameha, so who really cares?
Overall, this DLC once again had a lot of potential, and while it's better than the first DLC pack in one area, the rest of it somehow falls even shorter than the previous. This DLC pack, even if it was only ten bucks, is a huge pass, but I'm sure they'll charge more than that. We'll just have to wait and see.
Oh yeah, editing this to say that as of 4/21/2025 (the first day this has been on early access), none of the characters are dubbed in English. As a huge English guy, this kinda sucks. Hopefully they also change this.
As of 4/29/2025, this DLC is now out of early access. I'm still noticing a lack of English voice acting and the price is, unfortunately, ten bucks. I still believe that's overpriced for what you get. Avoid this one if you can.
