Ignoring the NFT controversy, I’ll post my honest review focusing on the content of the DLC.
Overall I’m unfamiliar with the characters from the HellRaiser franchise, so I’ll instead comment on the mechanics in game.
1. The Box Mechanic.
The box adds an extra (optional) objective to survivors.
If survivors solve the box, The Cenobite can choose to teleport to the box, try to stop the survivor from solving the box, or ignore the box being solved.
If the survivor solves the box or The Cenobite teleports to the survivor, a chain hunt will not start.
If The Cenobite finds the box or gets it off a survivor by using Franklin’s Demise or knocking down a survivor, a chain hunt will start.
If survivors don’t solve the box in a set period of time, a chain hunt will start.
The only way to stop a chain hunt is from a survivor interacting with the box.
If a survivor escapes with the box, it will not return to the trial.
Many add-ons affect the box in several ways.
2. Chain Hunt.
The chain hunt is beneficial to The Cenobite.
The chain hunt will spawn chains that will attach to the survivors, survivors can remove these through an interaction or breaking it off by using a wall.
A chain hunt involves the box. Shown above.
Overall, this makes the survivor’s main objective difficult.
3. Killer Power.
The Cenobite’s power is called Summons of Pain.
Put in simpler words, it’s the box and a chain the player can control called a “possessed chain.”
This chain can attach to the survivor which hinders movement.
This chain when attached to the survivor works similar to the chains in a chain hunt.
The chain is very stiff with movement so it may be hard to get it on a survivor.
There are many add-ons that change a few mechanics of the possessed chain.
4. Memento Mori and Voice Lines.
The Cenobite’s memento mori involves the killer sending the survivor to hell on a pillar of spikes with chains wrapped on the survivor.
Only Pinhead speaks, the Chatterer does not speak, he makes sounds of teeth chattering instead.
Pinhead will speak when stunned, picking up a survivor, hooking a survivor, attacking survivors (I think), mori-ing a survivor, and when the survivor opens the box.
5. Difficulty.
The Cenobite in game is marked as Very Difficult.
Overall, the difficulty for everyone is subjective.
Personally, I believe this is not a good killer for beginners.
Personally, I don’t find the killer too difficult.
6. Perks.
The Cenobite has 3 personal perks.
Deadlock, Hex: Plaything, and Scourge Hook: Gift of Pain.
The game explains this better than I could so I’ll not explain.
7. Survivors.
There’s no survivors.
8. Personal Opinions
As someone who plays both survivor and killer, the Cenobite is definitely a punisher for those with poor coordination.
Often times I find myself having to do the box unless some other altruistic teammate does so.
If you know how to guard the box well and how to manage it properly, you’ll absolutely crush the survivors you go against.
Overall I do recommend this, an honest review ignoring the NFT controversy.
