This is the best Arma 3 CDLC, no DLC, no, even arguably, the best Vietnam War experience in gaming space. Like, you can relive almost all of Vietnam War scenario. There are tunnels to experience being tunnel rat, cities to be liberated from western influences,
Let's start with the first point. Considering the develepor team looks like a business company with LinkedIn page and more than 100 members (although about 30 name are on the LinkedIn's list), Savage Design Game achieves what other CDLC developers cannot truly achieve in rather short time: create numbers armored vehicles that come with full interior. What kind of joy could compete against being able to see full interior of all vehicles that CDLC offers? Well there is, like script that work in few tests, but that besides the point.
When talking about this DLC, one cannot talk without mentioning the sound design. I am confident to say that SOGPF is golden standard of sound for CDLC. From unique explosion sound compared to vanilla game to even sound of many assets that are very close to their real life counterparts.
It is worth to mention the reload animations. Not only they look more original, they also look great and snappy. Especially loading older rifles that must be reloaded round by round. What a sight to see, especially since such thing cannot be encountered anywhere else in Arma 3, be it mods or even CDLC like Spearhead 1944. But that doesn't mean it's perfect, some are just bad. I find reload animations of AK family and MP40 to be some stain.
Ah, of course, the speech, voice that come from (virtual) humans. Like, while you can't see the enemy while you are sneaking, you can hear them talking to each other. So you will somewhat has an idea about Victor Charlie's presence in the area. This kind of immersion is rather unique in SOGPF. And the voice of incapacitated and dying soldiers are quite terrifying. But there is minus point, Vietnamese forces lack "Arma-style speech" which I find baffling. I know they are less professional than the GI, but give them voice.
And into the negative. Of course one might be concerned about the performance. While there are some that where game runs smoothly, sometimes it runs terribly on military complexes or cities. Even so, I find them more tolerable, and I am confident for those who play Arma long enough, can tolerate this. It won't run as bad as First Contact. I would say, like playing in jungle of Tanoa.
And for single player experience... yeah I won't say much. The showcases are okay, but I appreciate full Vietnamese voice for Viet Cong mission. Of course, there's also co-op campaign. Basically, it runs like Apex Protocol so it is not single-player friendly and rather infuriating than fun, considering how AI soldiers spot and shoot player despite heavy foliage that separate them and player. Better go to Workshop and find a user-made campaigns.
So yeah, if you are member of units or just a person who want to hear trees speak Vietnamese, this CDLC is for you and it deserves the full price.
