A great CDLC with a bad review score.
When looking into GM, the first thing that you will see are the reviews. Seeing mixed reviews on a cdlc this expensive would turn most people away.
The content in GM is amazing and worth the price.
**If you want to try out the DLC before considering its steep price, try the Compat mod. Go to the workshop, search up Global Mobilization Compatibility", subscribe and load it then you can use every GM asset, use mods that use GM dependencies all for free. The one downside is you will be inable to play the map that comes with the DLC, but you can look around it in Eden Editor. Compat mods are available for EVERY cDLC.**
Content:
GM offers a map called Weferlingen that comes with a winter and summer variant which is based on a rural Germany split by the iron curtain which consists of a large fence that spans from North to South and a concrete half wall that can stop vehicles coming from the East. Almost all buildings are destructible (except for one or two) and have multiple models to simulate destruction on certain parts of the building. Bridges and both layers of the iron curtain are destructible. The map is pretty spot on to the real location. The map features the city of Weferlingen, the Iron Curtain, and a section of the Autobahn (which is used in a co-op mission)
GM offers 4 factions, East and West Germany, Denmark, and Poland. All 4 have great detail. All 4 factions have 1980's versions but only West Germany and Denmark have 1990's variants with much more modern equipment.
All guns and assets are modeled extremely well and do some good damage to an enemy. My only complaint with guns is recoil, but it is manageable. Lots of interesting new gear to dress up with.
The CDLC offers a lot of interesting vehicles, ranging from many different APCs, Tanks, IFV's, MRAPS, Trucks, AA, etc. So many interesting new vehicles which have crazy customization on each like being able to set camo net and foliage on the hull and turret (in the garage) for pretty much every armored vehicle for extra immersion. There are no jets, the map is too small for air combat and there aren't any runways, but the CDLC adds 2 awesome planes to be used for cargo and paratroopers (Do 28 D2, L-410T). Helicopters are also really interesting. My favorite one is the Mi-2 Platan on the Polish faction. It is a mine laying helicopter which can shoot out 160 scatter-able mines off its left side making useful for a defense mission.
Campaign and Missions:
The campaign, named State Scarlet, is lackluster, this was the main reason for many negative reviews. The campaign lets you play as West German Infantry and a Tank platoon leader.
While the campaign is lackluster, the cDLC offers a bunch of co-op scenarios to do with friends or AI. They can range from small special forces raids, escaping the east of germany as danish, holding the western line in AT helicopters, running a tank platoon, to setting ambushes on the Autobahn. All missions are pretty fun and most have multiple versions for both sides of the fictional conflict. Most missions are pretty difficult and require a lot of cooperation, so friends or people you know would be best.
If you go on the workshop and search "Force Recon" you will find a scenario for GM made by the developers of the DLC. Force Recon is a mode that provides a real special operations experience. From infiltrating enemy lines to marking enemy units and assets on your map and sending that information to command, setting up explosives on enemy positions, and remaining undercover. The mode punishes you for killing an enemy when it wasn't necessary (this can be changed easily in mission parameters). Force Recon is a really interesting mode that could be great fun with friends. If you don't want to be stuck on Weferlingen, there are many other scenarios that port it to maps like Chernarus, Livonia, Altis, etc. Some community members have ported it to dlc's like Western Sahara and SOG (GM has to be loaded).
Workshop support:
A lot of mods use GM as a dependency, some notable ones being Sahrani Seguridad and CDF 2020.
The devs of GM were cool enough to use their assets and remake factions like AAF, CHDKZ, CDF, TM into an 80's version. Some people have taken after this and made variants for LDF aswell.
End:
GM is a great DLC, with lots of content and replayable scenarios and decent workshop support.
GM goes on sale usually $8 - $15 which is significantly better than full price (I paid full price and found it worth it).
Global Mobilization is up there with SOG Praire Fire when it comes to great content for Arma 3.
Rating: 9/10
**Try the GM Compat mod before making any decisions**
