A game that pulls you into it's Medieval setting and time period so well. From the wonderful dialogue, to the interesting characters, to the wonderful art design, to the great audio which is used sparingly but perfectly, this is a wonderful Murder mystery from Josh Sawyer and Obsidian.
In an age when every game has to be a shooter, action game or a microtransaction fest its nice to see a game like this that tells a wonderful story, has a great game world and some wonderful writing to it. There are also some fun side activities to. And some exploring to do, there are alot of interesting characters to chit chat with.
You can tell the devs have a huge passion for this setting and time period and you can feel the love pouring out from this game. For me personally this is right up there with the best Obsidian games ever.
Even early on, one of my favorite games of the year. The World, The dialogue, characters and setting have really pulled me in, can't wait to play more!
It might not be a game for everyone, but for me as someone who loves good writing, unique settings and time periods in games, this is right up my alley and I am loving it. We need more games like this that take chances and go for it. This is a game that is so sure of what it wants to be that it is a breath of fresh air.
Disco Elysium meets old adventure games like Kings Quest or Monkey Island, with Obsidian's wonderful writing. It also feels so wholesome and like it was made with so much care and love.
In a day and age where many games copy whats going on or what will make a quick buck, its nice to see a dev team like Obsidian rock a unique, somewhat niche title while the bigger games like Avowed and Outer Worlds 2 are being made.
Shoutout to to MS for letting a game like this get made, its wonderful and I hope we get more like it. if you like Obsidian games, like this time period or setting, I suggest picking this up asap. One of 2022's best games and I can see this being a Cult classic years later like Tyranny was a few years back.
I also love how the audio is handled, there is not a million things going on at once, when the music does come in its wonderful and I also love the audio of the environment, the birds,etc..
If you don't mind narrative heavy games (or reading) like Planscape Torment or Disco Elysium, there is a big chance you are going to LOVE this game. This game has some seriously well written stuff. One last thing, you don't have to be big on religion or religious yourself to enjoy this, I am not religious in anyway and I loved this game to bits. The way Obsidian handled many of the topics in this has been perfect.
**This also works wonderfully on the steamdeck right away, I can see myself playing this before bed alot on my steamdeck, it runs and controls great**
