i don't understand why so many people are leaving bad reviews. the game is not bad and even though micro-transactions ARE there, they are not all in your face and you have zero obligation to spend on the game. a lot of the bad reviews so far are from closed beta players that are disappointed about the movement speed change (a change they definitely made because even back in closed beta lots of people complained about the game being ''too quick'' and the matches feeling ''too short'', which feels so ironic now). feedback was already sent to the devs, and if they care about the game surely they will find a solution to all the complaints so far.
regardless, if you go into the game with an open mind and ignore all the bad reviews from closed beta players, it is actually enjoyable.
as a closed beta player myself, i do understand why some people are complaining (i also got weirded out by some of the changes), but i think it's lame to leave bad reviews on the game because it can be misleading to people wanting to try the game out. the game is definitely not bad :)
update: seeing people complain about the same things over and over again, but no one from closed beta talking about the GOOD changes is beyond me. it is so clear the devs DO listen, and complaining about a gacha system/micro-transactions in a free game is hilarious to me. the game HAS to make money SOMEHOW. i'll explain the gacha system/micro-transactions briefly:
- besides the fact that all of this is completely optional as it does NOT affect gameplay in any way, for the gacha part you quite literally get pulls for FREE through progress or you can purchase them if you'd like in different methods (membership coins, club points etc.)
- the game does not actually have nine currencies as some other people have said, it has THREE main currencies: gold, glunite and ''fragpunk coins'' which is the premium currency. the other ''currencies'' are mostly just points that you earn through playing the game.
now onto the good part:
pros:
- the new shard cards that have been added are genuinely so fun (the banana peel one especially is seriously so hilarious)
- the new lancer is also really cool (great design, cool abilities), the lancers we've already had since closed beta are obviously awesome but that's a given imo
- the ''proficiency'' system for characters and weapons is also great, i love all of the lancer specific cosmetics you can unlock and the fact that you can get a bunch of free stuff asw
- i saw someone complain about the sticker packs which is funny to me because this is not something new, we've seen it in other games. the sticker packs are not even expensive and you can upgrade the lower grade stickers into better ones (shinier and more colorful, which obviously equals to cooler)
- they listened to our feedback from closed beta and removed the player highlights after each round and kept it to one only at the very end of the game (so basically potg)
- they give you the option to disable useless voicelines and only keep the important intel/ability ones
- i would say the game is pretty optimized, i run the game smoothly on high settings and i'm sure i could even run it on the highest settings easily and still average over 100 fps (my pc is genuinely not that great lol)
- at the moment you can play through events and receive a bunch of free stuff, such as weapon skins, currency or cosmetics
- i am not sure about ranked as i have not touched it yet (i have heard some things about it, but i'll get into that a bit later), but they have also changed the way the weapon ''shop'' works. back in closed beta, each weapon was limited to one use per game (so, you could for example only use the fever for one round during a game, and if you wanted it again you'd have to request it or pray that you drop it in the silly gamba machine from quickplay - or wait until you switch sides between defense/attack as the shop resets at that point). now, they give you the ability to choose a weapon of a specific category (shotgun, smg, rifle) two times per game/side and it is not limited to a SPECIFIC weapon, you have two uses for each category (so if you prefer the fever over discipline, you can use it twice without having to request it)
- overall, the fact that each round is different from the other based on the cards the team chooses is just such a good concept, and i find it harder to get bored or burnt out
- also, according to the devs, once you buy the battlepass, you keep it forever. so sort of like the rivals bp system which is cool
cons:
- i don't have a lot to mention here, but i guess since it's something that people have mentioned already, the movement speed change can be an issue for people that have played the game previously. i would say that this would definitely not be a problem for new players though. (i think that if they revert it back to the old movement, newer players might have trouble with it haha, you can never make everyone happy imo)
- people have had issues with receiving closed beta rewards, but i believe this is something that the devs will try to find a solution for
- i've heard that currently ranked is a bit messy, the queue is long and since there's not much balance, it can be difficult because it's filled with players that were previously in top ranks. (i would say this isn't really a con though, as at the moment the game has not even been released for 24 hours and not a lot of people have reached level 30 to be able to queue ranked, which means it will simply take a while before it is genuinely playable, but this is not something we haven't seen in other games before)
- servers/network issues. i have only experienced these like once or twice though, so i can't have much of an opinion on this, but i have seen people mentioning them. for me personally, it wasn't something that affected my experience too much.
hopefully this reaches people that are genuinely interested in the game and that aren't easily swayed by the negative reviews that have been posted so far!
there is no better way to judge something than to try it yourself :)
