Vigor Review (Hoster102)
So I played this for a few months back on console until the literal server lag and greed of the developers drove me away. Saw it coming to PC and Figured I'd grab this and try it out. They've went back and undid some of the greed but you still need to spend the ingame currency to get any decent amount of loot and considering you very quickly need hundreds of matts just for lvl 3 of 10-15 level house upgrades well I guess you better grind the in game missions and hope you extract lucky so you didn't complete 2 missions just to boost your loot by 50% once.
First two hours ran pretty good. Deaths were justifiable, just unlucky, or mistakes on my behalf and I had good games and got some good loot. The majority of the matches I played until the radiation came in and sometimes never saw a player.
The last hour has had me spawn hunted 4 times, and close proximity spawned to other players 3 times. Due to the fact that players often use the craftable item to reveal players around them and you can often just spawn by in game locations that will do that for you as well, having been shortly hunted after being spawned with no way to protect myself because I'm not at the point of being capable/worth bringing a jammer each run or skilled enough to react and catch a player who knows where I am and I don't know where they are first and kill them. Perhaps if these towers revealed everyone to everyone in the radius I'd feel a lot better about it, but considering if you don't spawn right next to it you might as well just run away from it imo. The only time I didn't die from being spawn revealed was because I saw them taking aim at me and got a headshot when they shot me in the body.
Kill time is pretty quick, so unless you or your opponent just are inaccurate and having a bad moment, whoever shoots first wins. Which I don't think is necessarily a bad thing, but with being spawn hunted now in the majority of my matches it becomes less tasteful and feels like the meta gameplay is to camp loot locations from a hidden spot to kill someone.
Since it's past the refund time I'm gonna try to play it some more and get my money's worth but if it keeps up and turns to the majority of my starts being spawn hunts and such I don't see myself staying around.
**Edit**
Yeah it proceeded the same. after about 10 or so more matches, longest matches are about 15 minutes and I only got 1 of those in about 90 more minutes of gameplay, it was mostly load in and die in the first 5 minutes. Even if you aren't spawn revealed and hunted, spawns are close to each other and radar towers revealing everyone are frequent on the map. Sure you can spend crafting materials to bring a jammer that you have to place and only jams a building sized area around it plus a little more to counter that, but it means little if you're pinged before you place it. Just feels like you either gotta sweat or not enjoy the game. Not sure why a grindy pvp extraction shooter on a small map would have personal UAVs.
They've fixed some of the money grabby stuff they did back in console EA when I last quit playing (was free to play), but kept the ridiculous grind if you're not paying the premium currency to boost loot levels. If you get to escape that is. Sure you can complete weeklies to earn this and have a building that generates it (10 a day max level and one boost costs 30), but even at max level and completing it, you get about 6 or so boosts an entire week if you're hopping on every day?
Matchmaking will be better when you can squad up with teams of 3, so you will be going against 3-8 enemy teams (solos can still join) and less likely to run into people rather than 11 enemies with a near guaranteed chance to clash even if not spawn revealed.
