Trepang2 Review (AdventjX)
Quickfire Review
Underrated gem, needs more exposure to flip the FPS industry and bring in a revolution of sorts. Trepang2 is a perfect example of why GAMEPLAY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT IN ANY GAME. This was true in 2003, it is true in 2023, and it will be true in 2053. The sheer amount of detail and effort they put into the gunplay in Trepang2 is mind-blowing. I don't care how linear the game is, how there may be a lack of missions or content, or how customization may be subpar at this point. Even the graphics are plenty, let's ignore all the people who give it a downvote by saying "graphics are whatever." Trepang2 beats all the other AAA games that released this past year because of one sole reason: it feels complete. The gunplay is what defines Trepang2, and it's what makes it feel like a complete game regardless of minor complaints we may have with it. And if I had a dime for every incomplete, messy game that released in the past 2 years under the "live service" disguise, I'd be a millionaire by now.
The Spas-12 in Trepang2 is the most beautiful shotgun I've ever seen to date; and that's a statement that shouldn't be taken lightly.
Conclusion
Final Verdict: A+
My only hope for the future is that they make a more fleshed-out game that utilizes the full gunplay mechanics in this game - as it is. It's flawless. Everything else about the game spells "Indie", but there's nothing wrong with that. All developers, small or big, start somewhere and these guys are off to an amazing start. Imagine a 40-hour fully story-driven action-packed game with Trepang2 gunplay, combined with CoD/Battlefield levels of character + weapon customization and multiplayer. Let it sink in for a moment.
Commencement - definition: The end of something and the beginning of another.
CoD and Battlefield are dead. Trepang, it's time to take your rightful place as next in line to the throne of the FPS genre. A lot of people are excited to see where you go from here.
