Revita Review (CrouchingMeerkat)
This is truly one of the all-time great roguelikes and is criminally under-rated. I've never written a review for any game I've played but this really deserves more attention. It's got obvious inspirations from Isaac, Gungeon and Hades and is packed full with an insane number of different systems to strengthen or change-up your runs. It's got the magic of Isaac where every once in a while you just luck into an insane combination of interesting items and steamroll everything. You should definitely swap to the beta, it's filled with tons of extra content and I've never experienced anything which made the beta feel like a beta and not just a complete game.
If you're like me and you've heard there will be a big update and have been waiting to play, don't wait. The game wasn't popular enough to get the update completed so if you ever want to see the update, you'll need to help by playing this version first.
The game really centers around the risk-reward mechanic of sacrificing your HP for strength. I think most players are probably way too aggressive in sacrificing health, I know I am. The runs where I've been cautious usually end up being landslide wins so try reining yourself in if you find the sacrificing mechanics frustrating.
The biggest issue with the game is that the default key-binds on controller are pretty unusual. I highly recommend either remapping the controller key-binds or playing with mouse and keyboard. The online wiki's aren't the most fleshed out, so if you're looking for info on obscure interactions or secrets then I'd recommend checking out the Discord.
Edit: Turns out I wrote 2 tiny reviews about 6 years ago which I'd forgotten about.
