Brotato Review (Daenis)

Brotato is the one and only game, that i saw, in this *rogue-like horde survivor* sub-genre Vampire Survivor created that doesnt take player as a serotonin addict, making them get high with a junk serotonin chemicals or smth. And it does this with one simple thing, with not making runs endless, designing 20 waves and a run that can be *completed*. Meaning, by providing the player, the ability to actually win the game. Meaning, by giving them literally a *control*.
I played Vampire Survivors like everyone else, and enjoyed it while playing. Bc its like a drug, its like an ultimate version of idle games. In which we see numbers go up n somehow that makes us happy. Plus, in VS, there's a little context, and that establish a good support to maintain that addiction well.
But i dropped it after a little while realizing its literally working as a drug. Its so empty and junk in the core. Yes, maybe it feeds you with the same feeling that you play and get from other games in the end. Like most of the games in which we level up, get gears, make builds etc. It creates that by making those things incredibly compact like a pill. But you cant actually finish VS, thats not the point anyway. The point is making you high. I could even say that VS is almost TikTok of games.
You start your run, choose some skills or weapons to get stronger, and it knows you so well, what you want actually, so it gives you that. When you chose some skill, you immediatly become noticeably stronger. You kill enemies relatively easier. So you are satisfed by that. But of course, it doesn't last too long and after a few minutes or seconds, you start to struggle again and it gives you something else. This goes on, until the minute which you have to *die*, so that you can purchase some meta upgrades in the game. And this cycle continues to increase as long as you play. It doesnt end. Its just an idle game with a different shape.
The worst thing is, in my opinion, that the game kills you at some point by releasing a horde that can kill you instantly to keep that cycle in idling. No matter how your build is well-established *by you*, you will eventually die when the game wants you dead. This is what made me detatched from the game fast at the time. That, we dont actually have any control in Vampire Survivors and in its copy-cats. We dont. We dont even have a chance to fail or more important, to succeed, bc theres nothing to win besides from fake achievements.
Brotato, on the contrary, takes the idea from Vampire Survivors and makes its formula nourishing. By giving you at least some control or freedom to literaly fail or win the game. Your builds in this game literaly works or not, it does really matter. Its not like in VS, no matter what you choose, you run around for a while and than die because simply you must, to ''progress'' in the game. Dying in Vampire Survivors is like, ''ascension'' in Cookie Clicker. You give up your in game run to invest to other runs. In Brotato however, you gain meta progression by actually winning the game, if you can.
By the way, i actually like some idle games, i play them time to time. But those games are honest about being an idler and they dont require your constant attention. They literally play themselves, you just check on them time to time.
So, i wanted to appreciate Brotato on this matter for a while and talk about Vampire Survivors and i did. I dont like Vampire Survivors (and its copy-cats) one bit and i feel a little lonely on this matter but anyway. Thanks Blobfish.
