Well that ended up being a lot better than I expected.
This is a very charming experience. Great pixal art, good soudtrack. I played it with a good friend. He played the animal perspective boy, I played the robot perspective boy. The perspective differences were handled in a really fun way and used for some really cool puzzles.
The story is mixed, but I overall enjoyed it. It felt like a sort of 'coming of age' or 'growing up' story with strange supernatural elements.
Some advice for new players. According to my friend, the animal perspective boy see's some way bloodier and grosser stuff than the robot boy. If you're not a fan of that sort of thing, play the boy in the blue shirt. There is no blood or gore from that perspective.
Edit: Just got back to the game with the same friend over the last two days. Doing so with the same friend makes you play from the opposite perspectives. So in our case, he played blue, and me red this time. Doing so, the story was 'mostly' the same, but we were able to make different choices to see changes when they popped up. Doing so also added an extra scene to the end segment of the game, and an extra post credits scene that I would say were both very worth seeing. We enjoyed the experience a lot.
To readress my comment on the animal perspective boy seeing more violent in the original review, I can now safely say that yes, he does. But, it's also more so cartoony violence. There is some odd 'fleshy' depictions of bodys at times that can be rather exagerated, and mild blood, but I would describe it as cartoony more than anything else. At worst, expect strange brightly colored body horror consisting of bones and flesh, and a little blood. But it's hardly anything like the sort of blood and gore riddled settings you'd find in a typical horror game.
It didn't bother me at all, but I'm a fan of horror games and may be partly numb that that sort of thing by now. Still, I wanted to be detailed in my review when it comes to the sort of content the game contains.
