Great VR game, but naturally has some issues.
I have 100%'d this game, and it was a very enjoyable time. But there are some changes that can be made to improve it.
For further context, i completed the game on hard difficulty (heroic).
Let's start with grenades. In this game, you'll often try to fight enemies one on one. Grabbing a grenade is pressing a button to open the inventory, grabbing the grenade, pressing the trigger to prime it and then throwing it. Usually, grenades are meant to deal with groups, which doesn't happen often in Arken Age. These two reasons made me not use grenades, at all. They don't even do much on the higher difficulty, other than knocking an enemy down for a moment.
Then the shields. It's also cumbersome to grab a shield, after having to open the menu. There is also no way of seeing how much durability a shield has left, having it slowly discolor to red as it breaks would be a nice indicator. Shields are also... pretty small. I might aswell use my gun to block the bullets, as that works just as fine.
About difficulties in general: save yourself the pain, do not play on Heroic. The devs didn't put much thought into difficulty, and just raised enemy health and damage. There are other minor changes such as the costs of making a health syringe, but raised enemy health and damage makes it less fun.
Theres more! The game has a terminal in the Gildewood Kingdom, where you can spawn waves of enemies called Squadrons. Beating a squadron puts your time on the highscore board. As of writing, 52 people have beaten squadron 13. I'm number one by a large time margin, and the fact that i am is a problem. Because this is what i did: i'm used to the game being punishing, so just for that wave i went to easy difficulty, then did the wave again. The highscore board is NOT seperated by difficulty. Anyone playing on the easiest difficulty has a massive advantage in terms of time.
Minor suggestion: Have guns make a noise when the battery is empty. Using the bioreaper i had to keep pressing the trigger everytime until i notice it wasn't firing.
Don't bother with New Game+ either, there are no significant changes that make playing the game again worth it. This is where enemy health&damage should be increased, but that doesn't happen.
Sometimes grabbing items using the flick wrist motion doesn't seem to work, i have to move my hand so it nearly precisely aligns with the item. Mostly talking about the healing fruit from trees.
One last thing, sprinting is weird. Sometimes i'm full speed when walking diagonally, sometimes i full speed in all directions. Walking is also pretty slow, may i suggest an always sprinting option?
Devs, if you're reading this, enemies should have the same amount of health and deal the same amount of damage across all difficulties, but make them dumber and slower on easier difficulties and smarter and faster on higher difficulties. Guns just don't feel very impactfull on higher difficulties.
Despite all this, the game is still pretty fun, and a great adventure.
EDIT: Ignore sprinting issue, my controller has a stick problem.
