A Nostalgic Classic, But...
I played the original back in the day (Flash and PS2), and I was hyped to revisit it on PC—only to be met with the most barebones port imaginable.
No graphics settings (but it's HD). No meaningful gameplay tweaks nor settings. Nothing. It’s literally the same game, two decades later, with basically zero quality-of-life improvements. The port isn’t broken, but it feels a little bit like the devs hit "Export to PC", made some tweaks and called it a day. If this had dropped a decade earlier or cost $5, I wouldn’t even complain.
Play Together Mode? More Like "Give Me Your Keyboard" Mode
Co-op works, but for some mystifying reason, the second player must take control of your mouse and keyboard—even if they’re using a controller. I’ve played a lot of games, but this is the first time I’ve seen that issue.
Short but Brutal
If you’ve played it before, you can probably beat it in under two hours or less. New players? Expect pain. It’s not as punishing as Cuphead, but it’s not forgiving either—everything kills you instantly, and offscreen bullets have a personal vendetta against you.
Final Verdict
The game itself? A timeless, chaotic masterpiece.
This PC port? A little bit lazy, a little bit overpriced, but at least functional.
Wait for a sale unless you’re drowning in nostalgia. That said, the art style has aged very well, and the gameplay is still a blast, so I’d still recommend it… just with caution.
